How is the €STR calculated?

The €STR is calculated from the overnight borrowing costs of banks in the euro area. Put simply, the €STR is the current daily interest rate at which banks in the EU lend money to each other. The banks required to report submit these transactions to the European Central Bank (ECB), which calculates the €STR from them. The exact calculation methodology is available on the ECB website.

How often is the €STR updated?

The €STR is calculated on every TARGET2 business day. That is every day except Saturdays, Sundays, New Year's Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, 1 May (Labour Day), Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
